Since its inception five years ago, the Algebra Club has sought to teach kids the basics of algebra and to help them to develop or increase their love of all things math. The class is fun, upbeat, wacky, and it gives students a boost towards higher math skills.  Along with the workbooks, I make extensive use of presentation software, video clips, and math programs to facilitate acquisition and retention of material.  Every year we take students from the very basics of working with variables to multiplying binomials and even using the quadratic formula.

This year we will have an Advanced Math Enrichment class (level two for 5th-6th graders who have been in the first year club). This is going to be a MATHCOUNTS club, where we will regularly work on their challenging word problems. In addition, we will study probability, number theory, and higher level algebra and geometry material. 

Even though every attempt is made to make the class as enjoyable as possible, it must be pointed out that this class does involve class effort and homework.  This involves a commitment of time and serious study. I encourage all interested students to sign up for Algebra Club and to get ready for a fast-paced and fun year of math study!
